Teak(Tectona grandis L.f) occupies a dominant position in the highly sought after timbers in the world. This species originates from countries with tropical monsoon climates, chiefly India, Myanmar,Thailand and Cambodia. The annual pronounced dry season followed by wet weather in these countries imparts a beautiful grain structure to teak.At the same time teak wood is characteristically strong, durable and easily workable. Teak rules the world market because of its sterling qualities. It is difficult to find a happy blend of beauty, strength, stability and durability in any other tropical timber. Teak wood is being extensively used for ship building, bridges and wharves, railway carriages and wagons, ordnance, shingles, wheels, carving and general carpentry. As a result, it is much sought after throughout the world and fetches a high price as compared to other species of wood. With a growing trend to establish commercial plantations for quality timbers, there is a need to determine the critical levels of nutrient requirements for optimum growth of teak. The book gives an elaborate narration of fertilizer requirements and nutrient dynamics in teak plantations.

Productivity assessment and economic analysis of teak plantations of three age gradations (viz. 10, 15 and 20 years old) in different agro-climatic zones of Karnataka, viz. northern dry zone, northern transition zone, and hilly zone was carried out. Observations on growth parameters like total tree height, clear bole height, dbh, basal area, total volume and clear bole volume etc. were recorded in 10 m × 10 m sample plots and average data per hectare was calculated. Teak plantations raised on the farm lands of northern transition zone had significantly higher clear bole volume than that in northern dry zone or hilly zone at all the three age-gradations. 20-year old teak plantations of northern transition zone of Karnataka had, on an average, two times more clear bole volume (738.98 m3/ha) than that among northern dry zone (313.22 m3/ha) and hilly zone (322.86 m3/ha).

Dwindling forests in the world have led many to show interest in tree plantation development especially teak both as an investment potential and natural resource conservation. We discuss the profitability of teak plantations in the Dormaa District of the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana using the net present values, benefit-cost ratios, the financial rate of returns and sensitivity analysis. This book adds to the virtually non-existent data on the cost and expense structure and return on investments of teak plantations in the district and region as a whole, a valuable information for would be investors. Teak plantation in the district is a profitable investment.

Teak (Tectona grandisI is most important timber crop in Gujarat state of India. it is attacked by many insect-pests right from the nursery to the cutting stage. Amongst them, Teak defoliator (Hyblaea puera) and teak skeletonizer (Eutectona machaeralisz) are one of the most important insect-pests which remain active mostly during monsoon months. It is difficult to control these pests in old plantations so, selecting clones which are resistant orless suceptible is the most vital option of pest management. The research has highlighted the identification of teak clones on the basis of morphological, biochemical and nutritional characters which ulktimately proves R.H. Painter's theory of resistance and conforms non-preference and antibiosis type of resistance in the selected clones.

Plantation forestry development in Ghana has been identified as one of the most promising options to reduce deforestation and ensure the availability of forest products to meet social, environmental and economic objectives. Despite success stories choked in plantation development in Ghana, coppice management in established teak plantations is virtually nonexistence which is attributed to high cost of the coppice management. However, it has been discovered that the use of farmers in plantations is one of the most viable and cost effective approaches for coppice management in Ghana. Farmers are only incentivized to work in plantations when their preferred crops do well in any intercropping design usually used the plantations development. Cocoyam one of the neglected, underutilized and extinction threatened is also one of the staple food crops in the Ghanaian agrarian landscape.
